Adding a Term
Summary
Taxonomies and terms are used to organise content on our website(s). For more information on the different taxonomies we have, take a look at the taxonomy information page.
Terms are sometimes referred to 'Tags'
Creating a Taxonomy Term
Please note you cannot create a taxonomy, only the terms inside it.
Taxonomies are setup and configured by the web team and you should already have the ones you need when a website goes live.
Taxonomy Directory
You can manage the terms in a taxonomy by going to the Taxonomy management page (Admin > Structure > Taxonomy
).
When on this page you'll see a list of Taxonomies you can add terms to.
Choose the one you need to add an item to and click List terms
. This'll load a list of all the terms in that taxonomy.
Using this list you can edit an existing one, or click Add terms
to add a new one.
Once you've completed the details you need (look at the taxonomy explanation guide for more information on what to complete) you can save the term and it'll be added to the list.
Using this method also allows you to see all the terms in a Taxonomy to help avoid duplicating them un-necessarily.
Do not duplicate
It can be very easy to create a new taxonomy entry each time you need to add one to video. Please make sure you check one hasn't already been created by trying to add it first, otherwise you might find content doesn't always show where you need it to.
Domain Specific Terms
US & Canada Only
This affects from the Featured Companies field and the Companies field.
Terms can be configured to only show on specific regions.
To do this you need to edit a term, you can do this by visiting a term page (clicking it from a video description one way to get there) and click edit near the top (you'll need to be a Content Editor to do this).
Then go to the publishing section and select the region (domain) you want the term to appear on.
If none are selected, the term will appear on all domains. The same will happen if you select all of the them.
If there has been a significant update to taxonomy terms and several duplications have been merged and/or removed you might find the url aliases are a bit of a mess. Please reach out to the web team via the help desk to assist with sorting them out.
